FAQs
Shadeworks Arizona
Textile shade sails are a popular option for Arizona homes and businesses. This investment allows for great sun and UV protection for outdoor areas such as dining areas and patios. Most of our textiles reject up to 95% of UV without a rigid roof.
Shade structures can make an area significantly more livable and enjoyable but cannot change the ambient temperature. Generally speaking, the felt temperature underneath shade is approximately 20-30F cooler than in direct sunlight but the hottest days will still be hot. Design is also a key factor: Care must be paid to structure height, angles, and time of day. Additionally, shade textiles are semi-permeable and are not weatherproof.
We do not generally install pergolas, ramadas, or divided/louvered roofs.

Yes, Shadeworks Arizona offers maintenance and repair of existing structures as well as replacement of shade panels on existing structures. Large panel repair itself is generally not available.
*Adding patio umbrellas. If you are looking for instant shade on a budget, these offer a good solution. If you are seeking a long-term solution, we would be happy to build your permanent umbrellas.
*Screened-in patios can extend the outdoor livability of your space and provide a shield against insects and debris while also allowing for a safe pet area. We can help you create these areas as well and include shades or awnings as you like.
In short, no. While we can attach to many structures, fascias, fences, and block walls are generally not among them. Fascias require significant reinforcement to support shade panels; block walls and fences are rarely built with significant lateral load capacity in mind and do not provide sturdy anchorage. We provide safe, durable shade structures so you can enjoy your property for decades to come but this comes with building requirements.
Shade sails attach to various points such as steel columns or structural spanner plates. Awnings are much more limited in size and scope and attach to your structure above a window or door.
Shade solutions provided by Shadeworks Arizona are "generational" in nature: We aim to create structures that stand the test of time. Our textiles carry a 10-year (or more) manufacturer's warranty. Properly-installed panels often last 20 years.

Shadeworks Arizona enhances outdoor dining spaces for restaurants by designing and installing custom shade structures that provide protection from harsh sunlight and UV rays, thus creating a more comfortable and enjoyable environment for customers. We work with you to create solutions that match your functional and aesthetic needs to ensure that your outdoor dining space remains attractive and usable year-round; we can also offer services such as bistro lighting or mister routing to complement your seated area. This allows for expansion of your capacity and dining attraction.
The best shade structures for playgrounds and outdoor classrooms are often shade sails, ridge canopies, or lace panels for areas with a rigid perimeter. Shade sails are versatile and can be designed to cover medium- to large-sized areas, providing ample protection from the sun while allowing for airflow. All options allow for filtered natural light.
Shade structures significantly enhance customer comfort in shopping malls by providing cool, shaded areas where visitors can relax and take a break from the sun, especially in hot climates like Arizona. They create inviting outdoor spaces that encourage shoppers to spend more time in the mall, whether it’s in outdoor dining areas, walkways, or seating zones. Additionally, well-designed shade structures can add to the aesthetic appeal of the mall, making it a more attractive destination for customers. This comfort can lead to increased foot traffic and longer stays, ultimately benefiting the businesses within the mall.
It depends on scope. Our average residential shade project starts around $9,000, while most commercial projects start around $15,000.
Yes, we have various warranties depending on the shade material you choose. Full parts and labor warranty is 4 years; material warranties are 10+ years.
Many jurisdictions want permits for shade over 200sf. We can handle the permitting for you but there is additional cost for engineering and permitting; these costs vary by jurisdiction and scope.
For most projects it is about 8 weeks from start to finish and we will need to be on site at least twice.
We offer free virtual consultations; if you want a site survey they are $250 and will go towards any shade project over $10,000 booked within 30 days of the site survey.
